The AGBU Armenian Virtual College (AVC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of Armenia has launched a webinar series on the AVC’s Pan-Armenian Educational Forum platform (PAEF). The series is aimed at presenting contemporary topics and global trends in pedagogy and education, with the goal of expanding and strengthening the professional knowledge of educators and anyone interested in Armenian studies.

The RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports and the AGBU Armenian Virtual College again joined forces to provide a valuable resource to teachers and students specializing in humanities and social sciences. The second year of webinars on Armenian Studies has begun.

The first webinar of the year was led by Raffi Kortoshian, co-director at the Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA) Foundation, who presented his book "The Endangered Christian Armenian Heritage of Artsakh," which showcases the architectural history of the region and highlights the importance of preserving this heritage
     

The second webinar took place recently, on April 22, titled "Challenges of Teaching the Armenian Genocide" by Rubina Peroomian, Doctor of Philology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), a highly respected expert in the field of genocide studies and Armenian literature.

The webinar, which is available here, tackled the difficulties that arise when teaching about the Armenian Genocide, the atrocious events during WWI resulting in the deaths of over a million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire. This topic has long been a source of controversy and political sensitivity, with many nations still refusing to officially recognize the events as genocide.

One of the key challenges in teaching about the Armenian Genocide is the need to approach the topic with sensitivity and respect for the victims and their descendants and in a way accessible to young children. 

Despite these challenges, Peroomian emphasized the importance of educating students about the Armenian Genocide. By teaching about the past, we can better understand the present and work towards a more just and peaceful future.

The webinar series is initiated by AGBU AVC and RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, which are available here. The webinar series is designed to advance and strengthen professional knowledge, as well as to present and discuss contemporary topics in pedagogy and education. It is a unique opportunity for the attendees to gain valuable insights into the latest research and developments in the field and connect with other professionals.
